Bunker Armour are excited to announce and launch our new cost efficient premium bunker liner to the worldwide market, Bunker Barrier!

This new addition to our bunker lining solutions is a totally new product that ticks all the boxes with regards to bunker liner performance at a fraction of the price of other premium bunker liners.

Even better yet … you can install it yourself, thus the installation can be done according to your own schedule, budget and is easily facilitated by your own turf team if required.

Bunker Armour can also appoint one of our certified installers to facilitate the installation/s if required, thus ensuring that the product installation quality and process is both professional and efficient.

So what is Bunker Barrier?

Having worked with various types of base products over the past 8 years, we have formulated a specific solution that binds the actual sand that you would use in your bunkers to form an aesthetically pleasing, high-performance bunker liner that is easy to install, is quick to cure and doesn’t scare the finance committee.

Mixed in the bunker site itself using the existing/new bunker sand, Bunker Barrier offers years of service in keeping your bunker sand pearly white and protected from contaminants.

Bunker Barrier is “shock-absorbent” so when struck by a golf ball or golf club, causes no unexpected variation to regular play or damage to golf equipment.

The faces can also be colour-matched to your bunker sand, thus won’t be noticeable when/if exposed due to little or no sand coverage.

How is Bunker Barrier installed?

Simple! Mixed in/near the bunker site, bunker sand is blended with the Bunker Barrier solution.
Within minutes, it is applied to the bunker walls and base.

We have a number of bunker base solutions depending on the nature of the bunker substrate.

The process is the same as screeding a floor.
The applied product is cured in an hour, so when you’re done simply throw in bunker sand and the bunker is ready for play!

What is required to install Bunker Barrier?

The mixing process is really easy and very little is required from a small team of installers (suggest 4-6 personnel):1. A drop sheet or a surface to mix on
2. Bunker sand
3. Bunker Barrier (it comes in 200l or 25l containers)
4. Spades
5. Protective long-armed gloves
6. Conti suits/overalls
7. Plastering trowels
8. A strict control of time. The Bunker Barrier product installation demands a very specific/quick installation otherwise the product will dry, cure and be spoiled if applied late.
9. The Bunker Barrier solution should not come into contact with skin. It is a very strong glue and cannot be washed off with water or even a solvent. This is superbly strong glue!!!!
10. The Bunker Barrier product changes colour slightly, so Bunker Barrier can also be painted with enamel paint (similar chemical composition to the Bunker Barrier solution) to “exact-match” the bunker sand colour.

Preparation of the bunker site

The process of preparing the bunker site is also simple:
1. Bunker sand is removed from the bunker
2. Drainage is checked/repaired where required
3. Minor reshaping of bunker base/face irregularities

Bunker Barrier - Mixing & Installation

The process of preparing the bunker site is also simple:
1. Conti suits/hazmat suits to be worn with long-armed gloves
2. A mixing deck (drop sheet or other) to be placed in the bunker site for mixing
3. Sand to be weighed with proportional Bunker Barrier solution to be decanted into a bucket for blending into the sand.
4. Sand and Bunker Barrier solution mixed on the mixing deck with spades for stipulated time (10 minutes climatic temperature dependent).
5. Bunker Barrier solution left to cure for 10 minutes.
6. Bunker Barrier solution to be decanted and applied onto bunker face in buckets.
7. The Bunker Barrier solution is then trowelled/screeded onto the face for consistency and kept in place whilst it cures.
8. Bunker Barrier is textured with the use of a “spiked roller” (used for removing air bubbles for floor screeding).
9. The Bunker Barrier solution sets within 30 minutes (climatic temperature dependent) of application and is fully cured at 1-hour.
10. Bunker sand to be installed.

Finishing up

1. Sand is installed in the bunker to your required sand depth. We suggest 2cm (less than 1-inch) on the faces and 10cm (4-inches) on the base.
2. Once sand has been distributed, wet the sand and compact. Best practice for this would be with a Sandpro or ride on sand raker.
3. The beautiful Bunker Barrier bunker is ready for play!
